I actually do, from time to time.
So here's the thing. I had a model contact me on ModelMayhem (and I specifically say on my page that I only pay models if I approach them). She asked if I wanted to work with her and her mother. I've actually been wanting to work with two models, so I was interested.
Unfortunately, I'm a broke-ass bastard.
So I informed her that I don't have the funds to pay her, but if she's willing to work for trade, I'm up for it (realizing that traveling models probably have expenses, which I'm willing to cover).
What the hell, right? I know she's looking for money, but but there's a chance she actually wants my work in her portfolio. Can't hurt to ask.
Here's her response: "No I dont do trades, and that won't happen lol.I am in town for 2 days, and there is no way I will do a trade."
I would have accepted something like, "I'm sorry, I'm a traveling model and I have expenses to cover." but, "LOL"??!?!??!?
That is not professional. Good luck to her.
Look . . . we're all artists, and we all want to make a living at it. I have NO problem paying a model that I specifically approach. But if you approach ME? We're going to negotiate. And like I said, I'll cover expenses. But I'm looking for a fellow artist, not a stripper (not to offend strippers - I know a few that I have never seen strip - it's harmless entertainment).
I get that you're trying to make money, but so am I. Don't make it sound like trade is something unspeakable. Are you an artist or not?
... I gave her a more friendly response. But I also requested that she not contact me again.
