I have a theory on why female nudes are so much more prevalent than male nudes,
and it's not because guys are pervs (I'm positive that's an element -- don't get me wrong).
We simply like curvy, round things.
That's why boobs, butts, lips, and even eyes get our attention.
So my theory is that guys are just less interesting to look at. We're comparatively flat. We don't have the shiny curvy bits.
In fact I think that's the reason when you do see an interesting male nude,
it's usually some guy ripped all to hell who has interesting, curvy muscles (and probably shaved to keep the hair from making those curves literally fuzzy).
That makes male nudes a challenge.
A guy with an average figure is going to need some other advantage, such as being very emotive, or having some other awesome point of interest elsewhere in the composition.
I'm a few days behind in my inbox, but I recently found a fantastic male nude:
has been working meticulously at self-portraits (and for those who know me, I respect the shit out of good photographers who can pull off a self-portrait, let alone a nude self-portrait).
This shot, in one word, is awesome.
It's awesome for the reasons I mentioned above.
Male nudes are not easy.
Self-portraits are not easy.
This is a highly emotive piece that overcomes both challenges, and then on top of that, the high-contrast silver processing makes it pop.
THIS DESERVES A DAILY DEVIATION!
Which brings me to point number two.
Since artistic nudes aren't getting DDs anymore, has started a new group:
In a few moments, I'm going to be suggesting this piece to that group.

Great bath scenes.
About Watching
Artists are here to be seen. Some just have accounts to watch. That's fine. Most people on YouTube only have accounts to watch. They don't have content of their own. That's fine. I'm one of those. And that's the way it's supposed to work. What bothers me is when people at DA have collections called "Butts", "Boobs", "Pussy", "Girls I'd Like to Fuck". Seriously, guys. Stop. Yeah, I'm a heterosexual man. I see what you're seeing. I have those feelings, too. But I'm also a grown-up. My models are real people. Remember that. They're not your toys. I get "Momma Bear" really quickly about that. They become my friends. They are fellow artists. You're not just being rude (and vulgar) to them, but also to me. And I'm the one behind the camera.
Show Me Your Favorite Deviation
Someone just liked a comment I left on ESLB-Photography's journal about a year and a half back asking the same question. So I'll ask it, myself. What are your favorite deviations of all time? Share one or two. Feel free to tell us why. Mine is still the same. Posted less than two weeks before I joined, it was among the first I ever saw, here. It's been kind of a standard for me. It was one of my all-time favorites before I even thought to become an art nude photographer, myself. And I wasn't paying attention to who the photographer was until years later, so it's not just my Trekkie bias. I was actually just a fan of the model.

So, I agree that the male nudes don't get the looks and likes here. I will say in my many years here, I have seen only a few I truly liked, and many that were "Artistic Nude" in the same way that ketchup is a vegetable. Which is to say, it has been pretty much nothing but guys taking "self portraits" of their junk, or assholes, and putting it here for our entertainment. I know many men flip right through the male nudes, because "it's not their thing". I get it. Dudes are not my thing either. But learning and watching photography IS my thing these days. So I still look at the ones from photographers that aren't just junk pics. There is something to learn from every shot. I'm hoping I can learn the art of the self portrait, past the selfie form.
Thanks for the info on the new group. I will check it out.
